Focus on Your Vision and Your Style Will Follow

Whats Your Style?

When Brides start searching for their Wedding Photographer, normally, they approach this by looking for a specific style of photography that they have in mind.

And when they start talking to me about their Wedding Photography, the first thing I get asked is 'What's your style of photography'?

My answer to this question is always the same - 'I don't know yet, because I haven't discovered what your Vision is'.

This normally takes a little bit of explaining, and that's what I want to do here in this article for all the Brides out there on their quest for their Wedding Photographer.

My hope is to give you a different perspective on the way you look at your Wedding Photographs, and your Wedding Photographer.

My Job as Your Wedding Photographer

If there is one thing I've learned over the years, it's that no two Brides are alike.  Every Bride, every couple, every story is unique.

You see my job as your Wedding Photographer, isn't to take a ton of pictures of your Wedding Day.   It's to tell 'Your Story', through your eyes.

That's why I don’t believe that I, or any other photographer, can truly capture and tell your story, through a cookie cutter type of style.

That's why I have to step outside of myself, and help you bring out what your true Vision of your Wedding Photographs are.  Help you discover what these images are really going to mean to you.

Blending Emotion, with the Technical

As a professional Wedding Photographer, I believe Style is technical.  Getting that certain look, those specific tones, that is where the highly skilled technical side of a Wedding Photographer will come into play.

Knowing how to read the light, how and where to place the light and the shadows.  Precisely manipulating the to capture the light and colors in just the right way.  Choosing the right lens, the right angle, and perspective.

This only comes through years of gathering knowledge, and turning that into wisdom through consistent practice.

But knowing how to create and shoot in any specific Style alone, is not going to create photographs that are uniquely you.

This is where Vision steps in.  Vision is emotional.

It's about that thing that you just can't describe with words.  It's the way you look into each others eyes, and that feeling you get inside each time you see one another.

Vision is what creates your style.

So, let me start by telling you what I mean by Vision and Style and how I work with both.

Vision starts at the end.

It’s not the photographs you see, but what you see in these photographs.

What do you want your friends, family, your own children 20 years from now to see, when they look at these photographs.

Do you want them to feel the powerful emotions you were feeling on that day?  Or the story being told about what brought you two together, and what keeps you together, through thick and thin?

What do you want to see when you look at these photographs 20, 30, 40 years from now?  Do you want to be flooded with the same powerful emotions and feelings you were on that very day?  Do you want to look at these photographs, and know exactly how and why the love between you and your spouse has stood through the test of time?

Paint a picture of the two of you, looking at these photos years from now.  Where are you?  What do you look like?  Are your children all grown and moved away, and it's just the two of you, growing old and grey?  Picture what kind of day it is, and it's just the two of you, alone, quiet.  When you pull out your album and prints, and lay your eyes on them, what do you feel?  What do you remember?  What kind of couple do these photographs describe?

Ask yourself this, If you could only choose one memory to keep about the two of you and your Wedding Day, what would it be?

This, to me, is what Vision is.  It’s exactly the two of you, right down to your Soul.

It's your story, and it's already written.  You just haven't lived it yet.

This is where your Vision will feed into everything your Style is, and everything it says about you.

When we discover your true Vision, we know exactly what your photographs look like.  From the soft light, to the bright and airy feelings, to the warm, rich, romantic mood the shadows cast.

And that is what truly is Your Style.

It encompasses everything about the two of you.  It tells the story of what brought you both together, what keeps you together, and sets your passion for one another on fire.

It is everything you love, and nothing you don't.

And that is how I will capture Your Story.  Anticipating the emotion, seeking out the unique characteristics that make each moment yours.

It's how I will capture those moments that are that are right in front of us, find those that are hidden, and create those that no one else sees.

This is what will inspire you to relive your special day again and again, for the rest of your lives.

Seeing Your Vision, Capturing Your Story

I pride myself as a Master of Vision, and a Servant to Style.

If capturing Your Story is truly important to you, let's connect over a cup of coffee, or even over the phone, and let me show you how I can make sure it's your story being told.

“You have to know that there’s only one split second to capture a moment before the world changes.”
