The Search is On! For Your Perfect Wedding Photographer

The wedding photographer you choose is the sole person you are trusting to capture one of the most important days of your life, and there are no second chances. Don’t make this decision lightly.

In a market like Northwest Arkansas, that is saturated with wedding photographers, it can become a very daunting task trying to find the perfect one to capture your special day. In this article we offer some sound advice to ease this burden and help you make the best decision!

Within any given area of decent size, there is going to be what seems an enormous number of wedding photographers all bidding for your business.  And Northwest Arkansas is no exception.

Here are 3 quick tips to help you on your journey…

Google…

Yes I know it's obvious, but I couldn't write a blog about search without mentioning the worlds most powerful search tool, that is always right at your finger tips.  And it's one we use almost everyday.

But even a Google Search can become very overwhelming.  For example, I searched for Arkansas Wedding Photographers and got over 6 million results!  Even a more refined search like "Bentonville Arkansas Wedding Photographers", returned 220,000 results.

While this may seem like more than you can handle, this is at least a good start to getting a list of your potential wedding photographers started.

So here are a couple quick tips to help you focus your Google search:

  • Try search terms that are relevant to your area, or where you will be getting married. For example, if you are getting married in Bentonville, you may try 'Bentonville wedding photographers', or expand the search to something like 'Northwest Arkansas wedding photographers'.

  • Avoid using terms that are too broad. For example 'Wedding Photographers'. This returned over 2 Billion results, and many of them were not local to me.

  • Don't be afraid to scroll down the search page. Most people when searching only look at the first 5 results they see on their screen. Just remember, Google ranks websites based on things like keywords and backlinks, and not on the quality of work or skill of the photographer. So scrolling or even navigating to the next page may just find you your perfect photographer.

The key here is to remember that as powerful as Google is, it still cannot tell if a wedding photographer is going to be a good fit for you.

Recommendations from friends and family…

  • One of the best resources we have is the experiences of our friends and family.  By asking the people we trust the most, who they would personally recommend, goes along way when you are searching for your wedding photographer.

  • Get recommendations from those in your circle who were the ones that got married and worked with the photographer.

  • But remember not to go on recommendations alone.  No matter how high the praises are, and how much you trust your sources, always verify.  You will still want to meet with the potential photographer in person or on the phone, and eventually come to your own conclusion.

This leads me to my next tip, the consultation.

Have a Consultation…

I know this is a hassle but trust me, nothing will go as far as actually being able to meet your photographer whether it's in person, web chat, or phone call.

  • Once you have a potential wedding photographer(s) identified, reach out and ask to meet with them.

  • No website, Facebook page, or Instagram account can actually replace the value you receive, when you actually are able to meet someone in person, or at least on the phone.

  • This is your opportunity for you to know whether or not  you will connect with them.

Yes a consultation may not seem like the most fun thing to do, but you wouldn't buy a car without test driving it first, right?

Closing thoughts…

Having to schedule appointments and take time out of your busy life, to meet with someone who you may or may not do business with, is never fun.

But when you look back at your Wedding Day, you won't remember the appointments, the phone calls, coffee shop meetings, or the cancellations and rescheduling.

The only thing you will have are your wedding photos.

So I want to encourage you to take the time to meet and talk with your potential wedding photographer.  Get to know and understand them, and their business, so you can make the best, informed decision possible, and have amazing images too.  Happy searching.
